Support Scheme for Supervision of Research Degrees (SUSRED) 2017

INTRODUCTION
SUSRED (Support Scheme for Supervision of Research Degrees) is a NSF award given to Supervisors of postgraduate research degrees (MPhils and PhDs) and Departments/Divisions/Units of institutions that support postgraduate research in Sri Lanka, in recognition of  the service to the nation.

OBJECTIVES
1. Motivation  of  senior  researchers  to  supervise  postgraduate research degrees.
2. Encourage  universities  and  research  institutions  to  promote  and facilitate postgraduate research training.
3. Encourage  supervisors  to complete  the postgraduate  research degrees within the stipulated time period without compromising quality.

EXPECTED OUTCOME
Strengthen  the  National  Research  System  with  an  increased  number of  trained/qualified research personnel within a vibrant and dynamic research culture.

WHO SHOULD APPLY
Category A - Supervisors    of    students    who    have    completed their  postgraduate  degree  during  2015  and  2016.  
Category B - Department/Division/Unit of an institution that has produced 3 or more research degrees (eligible  for a SUSRED award) per year in 2015 and 2016.  

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  1. Supervisor/supervisory team and student should be citizens of Sri Lanka and registered with the NSF-STMIS database.
  2. Postgraduate degrees completed in 2015 or 2016 will be considered for 2017 awards.
  3. A PhD should be awarded within a   period of 4 years and a   MPhil within 3 years from the date of registration (A letter from the Registrar of the university confirming dates of  registration and award of postgraduate degree should be submitted).
  4. A minimum of one publication in a   peer reviewed journal and/or a patent based on the research carried out for the postgraduate degree. Copy of publication and/or patent should be submitted.
  5. Postgraduate degree should be awarded by a   recognized university in  Sri Lanka.
  6. Submission of a copy of the thesis is mandatory.

HOW TO APPLY
Category A - Application should be submitted by the Principal  Supervisor. All registered supervisors of the student should sign the application. For each postgraduate degree supervised, a separate application should be submitted.
Category B - Application should be submitted by the Head of the Department/Division/Unit of an Institution.

  • - All applications should be submitted through the Vice Chancellor of the University/Head of the Institution.
  • - Application form and other relevant information could be obtained from  the National Science Foundation by sending a self-addressed envelope or could be downloaded from here.
    - Completed applications should be submitted to the Director General, NSF.  Please  indicate  SUSRED on the top left hand corner of the envelope.

    - Applications should be submitted on or before 04 july 2017. only  complete  applications  submitted  by  the  due  date  will  be   considered
