International Chemistry Olympiad Champions Awards Ceremony in 2022 was held on 29 December 2022 at the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, Rajagiriya, Colombo. Prof. Ranjith Senaratne, Chairman of the NSF, was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Prof. Hiran Amarasekara, National Coordinator, Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad Committee, the Guest of Honour.
In 2022, the Sri Lankan team won a Silver Medal and 3 Bronze Medals at the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad hosted by China. While Nelushi Vithanachchi from Visakha Vidyalaya - Colombo 05 won a silver medal, Vasanthamohan Sasangan from St.Michael's College - Batticaloa, Benuljith Karunarathne from Royal College, Colombo 7 and Kavinda Chathuranga from Nalanda College, Colombo 10 won bronze medals. This is thus far the most outstanding performance by a Sri Lankan team at any international high school Olympiad Competition. Dr. Ireshika C. De Silva, Chairperson of the Chemistry Olympiad Sri Lanka Committee, was instrumental in training and mentoring the participants and organizing the awards ceremony.
