The Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka (UWU) conducted EXPO 2022 on the 28 September, 2022 with a view to further strengthening links between the University and industry and providing a platform for the budding entrepreneurs from the community and universities to showcase their novel and innovative products and services. It constituted four main components, namely exhibition, research showcase, business clinic and investor lounge, and was held under the direction of Prof. Jayantha Lal Ratnasekera, Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Prof. Ranjith Senaratne, Chairman of the National Science Foundation was the Chief Guest of this historic occasion where he delivered a speech entitled "Needed: Transformation of our universities into "Communiversities" and Wealth Creators" which was well received by the audience. Showcasing of several promising start-ups by the students of the UWU and other universities and industry presenting their technical and technological issues to the staff and students for possible solutions through R&D were among the salient features of the event.
The UWU was the first entrepreneurial university in Sri Lanka that was established under the visionary leadership of the founder Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Chandra Embuldeniya. The EXPO-2022, which was well attended by school children, community and industry, was organized under the guidance of Prof. Jagath Pitawala, Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences and coordinated by Dr. Indunil Ratnayake. Mr. Ian Iddamalgoda, CEO of Maya Creations (Pvt) Ltd. was instrumental in organizing the event.
