Global Digital Platform established by NSF harnesses another expatriate scientists to support enhancing research skills of school children in rural areas

Dr Tharanga Wijetunge (Associate Professor of Mathematics) and Dr Irosha Nawarathne (Associate Professor of Chemistry) of Lyon College, State of Arkansas, USA came forward to support under privileged schools in Sri Lanka in the areas of science and mathematics. The NSF made befitting facilitation where a science teacher of Lihiniyawa Kanishta Vidyalaya, Lihiniyawa came forward to harness the opportunity. During the short stay of the two expatriates in the country, they visited Lihiniyawa Kanishta Vidyalaya located in a remote area of Kalutara District and extended their generous support to the science society enabling students to continue their science research projects under the School Science Research Projects Competition (SRPC) conducted by the NSF. Their visit to the school was also a motivational factor for young school children to become future science/research leaders.
