




The National Hackathon 2025, organized by the Industrial Management Science Students’ Association (IMSSA) of the Department of Industrial Management, University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Science Foundation concluded successfully on 11th November 2025 at Water’s Edge, Battaramulla, followed by a colorful awards ceremony that celebrated the admired young talent and brilliant ideas of the country’s future innovators.
hackX, Sri Lanka’s premier inter-university startup challenge, and hackX Jr., the nation’s leading inter-school hackathon, are flagship initiatives of IMSSA, University of Kelaniya. This year, IMSSA partnered with the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the purview of the Ministry of Science and Technology in conducting the National Hackathon 2025 where NSF provided partial financial support as well as expertise contribution in nurturing the future innovation leaders. The Director General of the National Science Foundation, Dr. Sepalika Sudasinghe made an inspirational speech at the inaugural ceremony and encouraged the teams of the University category and School category for a successful pitching session to be the winners of each category.
National Science Foundation being the premier organization in fostering science, technology and innovation in the country partnered with the University of Kelaniya with the clear intention of empowering the next generation of innovators. Through this collaboration, the NSF has helped bringing the National Hackathon to new heights, inspiring creativity, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement across the nation. The hackX Jr. 8.0 competition provided a unique platform for school students to showcase their innovative ideas, sharpen real-world problem-solving skills, and take their first steps toward transforming creativity into impactful solutions.
Meanwhile, hackX 10.0 marked a decade of excellence as Sri Lanka’s premier inter-university startup challenge. Over the past ten years, the IMSSA has connected brilliant university minds with industry leaders and investors, fostering innovation and turning ideas into sustainable solutions that address real-world challenges.
