NSF in collaboration with the Ministry of Science & Technology organized the Science & Technology Exhibition for the 2nd consecutive year from 3-6 November 2006 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition Centre (Hall B) of the BMICH. The theme for the Exhibition was “Technology for Development”.

The aim of the Exhibition was to bring together public sector S&T institutions, universities, professional associations, private sector manufacturing and technology related industries, manufacturers of machinery for food, herbal materials and environmental related industries, export processing companies, information technology providers and young inventors in the field of science and technology.
World Science Day Schools Programme
The National Science Foundation celebrated the World Science Day – Schools Programme on 7 November 2006 at the BMICH Main Hall. The theme for this year was “Technology for Development”. About 1500 school children from various parts of the country participated at this event. In addition to the school children, the participants included, the representatives from other scientific organizations, officials from relevant ministries, award winners and media personnel. Hon. Minister of Education Mr Susil Premjayanth was the Chief Guest and the Hon. Minister of Science and Technology Prof. Tissa Vitarana was the Guest Honour.


The Chairman of the NSF Advisory Board on Popularization of Science in his address stated the importance of taking science and technology to the people and the role of NSF in achieving this target.
Dr Rohan Munasinghe, Senior Lecturer, University of Moratuwa made a comprehensive presentation on Nanotechnology and how it could be applied in various fields of S&T for development.
A stage drama on Nanotechnology was performed by the drama group of Mr Mangala Senanayake.
The drama performed by the team of students from Matale Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya which won the first place at the school drama competition held under the theme “Technology for Development” was highly appreciated by the audience.
The Awards for the winners of the poster, oratory, drama, sculpture, and art competitions conducted among the School Science Societies under the theme “Technology for Development “ were presented by the Hon. Minister of Education. The winners were awarded with a personalized plaque, cash prize and a certificate.
