The NSF started this programme with the aim of fostering students to acquire knowledge on latest developments in various fields of Science and Technology, to make them aware of the application of scientific knowledge in day to day activities and for the improvement of the standard of living.

Service of local scientists as resource persons for science programmes
Provision of funds to conduct selected science projects
Provision of Vidurava Science Magazine free of charge
Members of school science societies will be  given an opportunity to participate in periodic seminars, workshops, field trips and the World Science Day organized by the NSF
Entitled to participate in the Science Competitions conducted by the NSF for the celebration of the World Science Day.

Resent workshops conducted

Workshop on Protection and Conservation Knuckles

An awareness programme on Knuckles was conducted by the Science Popularization Division of the NSF on 27 April 2007 at the Illukkubura, Resource centre of the Forest Department.

The objective of this workshop was to create awareness amongst the school children, in the area the importance of the conservation and management of this Natural Heritage and also to inculcate attitudes towards the protection of Natural Resources.

Introductory  workshops on Sri Lanka Science and Engineering Fair
Three Introductory workshops were held to introduce Sri Lanka Science and Engineering Fair in Colombo, Matara and Kandy in June, July and August respectively
