The Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between the NSF, Sri Lanka and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) was signed on 02nd October 2017 at the ‘STS Forum, Japan’ event held in Kyoto, Japan. The collaborative activities under this MoC includes collaborative activities such as research, support for personnel exchange, promotion of information sharing, etc.
 
The 01st Joint Workshop under this MoC was held on 10th October 2018 as an e- Asia Join Research Programme (e-Asia JRP) workshop on ‘Strategy for Conservation and Utilization of Animal Genetic Resources in Asia’ in Tokyo, Japan with the participation of about 40 scientists from Japan, Sri Lanka and Thailand. As a follow up to that NSF joined the 08th Joint Call for proposals on Agriculture by the e-Asia JRP in early 2019. A multilateral collaborative research proposal (including a group of Sri Lankan researchers) submitted under this call has been recommended for funding by the e-Asia JRP secretariat. 
 
Under support for personnel exchange, a Sakura Science Alumni Meeting was co-organized by the NSF and JST on 21.02.2019 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. As a follow-up, NSF was requested by the JST to coordinate the Sakura Science Alumni Activities in Sri Lanka.
