The Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science 2019

The UNESCO’s Social & Human Sciences Sector has launched the call for nominations for UNESCO Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science 2019 which is intended to reward the outstanding performers (individual or groups) in the field of ethics in science. This year, the Prize will recognize those who have made a significant contribution for the advancement of the "Ethics of Environment" with a special thematic focus on ethics of climate change and environmental sustainability.

The Prize consists of a gold medal of Avicenna along with a certificate, a sum of USD 50,000, and a one-week academic visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is to facilitate the delivery of speeches in the relevant academic gatherings organized for this purpose by the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

The National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka on behalf of the ‘Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO’ calls for applications for the said Prize from prospective applicants in Sri Lanka. Interested candidates are requested to submit electronic versions of the following documents by an email to the Director General of the NSF ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) not later than 9th August 2019.  

1)      Section C(Information about the nominee) in the attached Nomination Form. Please note that the Section B will be completed by the NSF being the Nominator.

2)      Document stating the candidate’s General Rules/Statutes is required if the nominee is an institution/organization.  

3)      Two statement letters of support, from an institution/personality, providing the supporters’ own professional perspectives concerning the nominee’s achievements emphasizing the relevance of the nomination in relation to the requirements of the Prize (please indicate full coordinates of the referees, including their telephone numbers and email addresses).

4)      List of enclosed annexes(publications, books, digital audio/video materials, illustrating the relevance of the nomination in relation to the requirements of the Prize). Electronic versions (preferred in pdf format) of these additional materials should be submitted along with the above documents.

After the receipt of the e-versions of the application documents, the NSF will facilitate submission of nominations to the relevant authority where an international jury of eminent scientists will make the final selection.
