National Science Foundation (NSF) launched a programme to celebrate the new year festival on Monday, 18 April 2022 at the Auditorium as the first activity under the Talant Management Programme of NSF with enthusiastic participation of the NSF staff. This event was organized by the NSF Welfare Society under the directive of the new Director General, Dr Sepalika Sudasinghe.

Talent management is the systematic attraction, identification, development, engagement, retention, and deployment of those individuals who are of particular value to an organization (CIPD, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, UK).

The Director General wishes to implement the Talent Management Programme at NSF and as a beginning some principles in talent management were applied to the event to celebrate the new year festival.

There are hidden talents among the staff members, and we need to identify them clearly and should improve them for the benefit of the organization. Accordingly, a sound platform was created at this event to showcase the talents of the staff members.

A short drama produced on “Soorya Mangallaya – 2022" was staged at the event with the creative participation of five staff members, namely Ms Chamarika Samarasinghe (Science Communication and Outreach Division), Ms Chandima Samarasinghe (Science and Technology Policy Research Division), Ms Nisansala Hemamali (National Science Library and Resource Centre), Ms Buddhi Wickramasinghe (Procurement Unit), and Ms Shamila Mohomed (National Science Library and Resource Centre).

The script of the drama was written by Ms Chamarika and Ms Chandima together under the guidance of the DG and it provided information on Sinhala avurudu customs and root of the origin of them. The audience's interest was kept by the drama by the talented acting of the crew, beautiful dances, and songs.

Another two staff members, Ms Hemamali Muthumala (National Science Library and Resource Centre), and Ms Sammani Weerasinghe (Accounts Division) provided their active participation by singing two individual songs amidst the loud applause of the audience.

The front glass window of the lobby was nicely decorated with creative artwork depicting the Sinhala new year symbolically prepared by Mr P.D. Muditha (Administration Division).

The programme was compeered by Ms Monali Hewage (Administration Division) showing her oratory talents.

NSF expects to continue the Talent Management Programme with some other planned activities in the near future.
