There are 12 categories of this award, and ‘Mihimandala’ won one of the first places (out of two; the other one was won by Bangladesh) under the e-Science category. Mihimandala video series was created, coordinated and monitored by the Advisory Board to the
Science Popularization Division under the directions provided by late Prof. M.T.M. Jiffry, then Chairman of the Committee, and Prof. Sirimali Fernando, Chairperson of the NSF. Young Asia Television (YATV) was the production house selected by the NSF to produce the video series. This video series was produced in all three languages (Sinhala, Tamil, and English) with the objective of creating a knowledge based society – a society that would understand the basis of science and technology, and how it would impact on their lives; how it can be utilized to improve their daily activities. Mihimandala video series was telecast over three national channels; Sinhala version via ITN, and TNL, Tamil and English versions over Channel Eye of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.
