The National Science Foundation Merit Awards are made annually to Sri Lankan Scientists for research work of outstanding merit carried out with NSF supported grants. This scheme was initiated in 1986. The award will consist of a cash prize of Rs. 100,000/= and a citation. If more than one grantee has worked on the selected research project, the cash prize will be shared equally among them. An award will be made under each Research Committee, if there are Final Reports reaching the required standard.
The purpose of the award is to bestow on researchers the recognition they deserve for the contribution made for the advancement of science and thereby helping to achieve one of the main objectives of the National Science Foundation. This award scheme is also meant to motivate recipients of research grants to conscientiously maintain high standards of scientific research while at the same time helping themselves to enhance their own career prospects as recognized scientists. |
