Originally planned project civil works consist of ten buildings and total floor area of 7020 m2 , located at three R & D institutions and four Universities. Civil works were later expanded using contingency funds and additional funds made available by the Mid Term Review Mission. A total of 10365 m2 of floor area and two water tanks have been constructed to date. the present fund allocation (foreign component) for civil works amounts to $ 1.937 million.

one of the initially planned buildings, National Center for Molecular Biology at University of Colombo, has been constructed with funds from SIDA. The building floor area was increased to 2500 m2 from originally planned 1000 m2 . The Project scope was limited to the design and preparation of bid documentation of the building.
